How WeDoGood Is rewriting how capacity building happens for changemakers and community orgs

When we started WeDoGood back in 2021, our mission was simple: help NGOs grow. But like most meaningful journeys, what began as a straightforward idea has evolved, driven by lived experiences, real-world challenges, and the growing need for sustainable, scalable support for the social sector.
Where It All Began
For Shubham, one of our co-founders, the gap became painfully evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having volunteered with NGOs like BloodConnect and Make A Difference during his IIT Kanpur days, he had seen firsthand how committed people in the development sector are. But while working at Mastercard during the pandemic, he witnessed something stark: corporations adapted within weeks to the new world of remote work. In contrast, even large, well-funded NGOs took 6–12 months to shift basic operations online—some even shutting down programs in the process. It wasn't a lack of will. It was a lack of capacity.
The Early Days: Matching Volunteers to Nonprofits
In 2021, we took a platform approach. Our MVP was built like an Internshala for nonprofits—a place where volunteers could find opportunities to work with NGOs. But it didn't take long for a deeper problem to surface: most nonprofits didn't know how to engage volunteers effectively. In many cases, they weren't clear on the core problem they were solving, or how to translate that into actionable volunteer engagement. This revealed a critical issue of capacity and strategic clarity—something that no platform could magically fix.
The Real Problem: Skill Gaps in the Social Sector
Unlike corporations, NGOs don't have the luxury of hiring domain experts or strategy consultants. Most are stretched thin, trying to do the most with the least. And while intent is high, skills are often in short supply. So, we pivoted. We began building a model around skilled volunteering, where professionals contribute their time and domain expertise to help NGOs solve real operational and strategic problems. This wasn't about one-day events or social media takeovers. These were meaningful, project-based engagements focused on impact.
Over the last 3 years, we've supported over 500+ nonprofits, engaged 2000+ professionals, and created ₹4.5+ crore worth of nonprofit value. With an NPS of 4.7 from NGOs and 4.8 from volunteers, and a 95%+ project completion rate, we knew we had struck the right balance between process, people, and purpose.
Why We Didn't Build a Platform—At First
Instead of rushing to productize, we chose to go deep. We ran the entire process manually, understanding where projects succeed or fail, what volunteers need to stay engaged, and how to design systems that reflect the messy reality of nonprofits.
This human-centred approach helped us crack something few others have: how to run skilled volunteering programs in India, at scale, without losing quality.
The Pivot: From a Service to a Scalable Platform
Armed with insights, frameworks, and a tested process, we were finally ready to go back to the idea of a platform—but this time with precision.
Our new platform isn't just for NGOs anymore. We're now supporting other under-resourced communities: micro-entrepreneurs, youth, small businesses—anyone who could benefit from skilled, project-based support.
This isn't just a tool. It's a scalable ecosystem where changemakers can find:
Impact projects that match their skills
Resources to build capacity
Community stories to learn from
Tools to solve real problems
Why the Rebrand? Why the New Website?
Because WeDoGood is no longer just a connector—it's a catalyst.
Our old identity didn't reflect the full spectrum of who we serve and how we work. With the rebrand, we wanted to reflect our core values more clearly:
Simplicity, in design and access
Empathy, in every interaction
Action, not just intention
Our new website is designed as a living, breathing space. More intuitive, more resourceful, and more scalable. A place where purpose-driven people don't just find opportunities—they find tools, partners, and inspiration to create lasting change.
What's Next?
The social sector doesn't just need more funding—it needs capacity, strategy, and systems. Through WeDoGood, we're building that backbone for India's grassroots innovators. And we're just getting started. If you're a nonprofit, micro-entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to make their time and skills count, join us.
Let's stop working in silos and start co-building a future where doing good is not a side hustle, but a serious, systemic movement.
